Venation company profile

Venation is a content networking company providing unique overlay-network technology to aid the real-time acceleration of multiple types of content including video, audio, web, gaming and finance information over the same platform. In essence we push out content at the infrastructure level as and when it changes, only to the edges of the Internet that it needs to reach. Our customers include telecommunications service providers, ISPs and major enterprise companies, all of whom want to distribute multiple types of content over one platform to large numbers of clients or users. We can aid existing applications such as web caching as well as enabling new interactive applications. Venation is a privately held company and was founded by Ralph Cochrane and Paul Evans in February 2001. We are backed by Softbank UK Ventures and the BT's Brightstar corporate incubator programme. The research behind the technology dates back to a chance conversation over coffee between Ralph and Paul, whilst they both worked for BT Laboratories. Ralph could see the problem of large scale distribution and Paul provided the solution. The rest, as they say is history. Currently based in the UK in Ipswich, Suffolk with staff in the UK and US, Venation appliances will be widely available from late summer 2001. Venation develops the world's only content distribution solution for timely data e.g. share prices, news information, billing etc., which will scale to millions of users over the wide area. We believe that as well as simplifying the task of writing distributed applications for developers our technology should also complement existing networks.
