The Russian chemical production company, TogliattiAzot (ToAz), is the largest ammonia producer in the world. Situated in Togliatti, one of the largest cities in Russia, TogliattiAzot is managed by Sergei Makhlai. It was previously run by Vladimir Makhlai, Sergei Makhlai's father, who acquired shares of the company in 1992. Product Range Chemical Products The main product manufactured by TogliattiAzot is ammonia. A versatile chemical, ammonia is used as an element in the production of nitrogen-based compounds and also as a major ingredient in fertilizers. By adding ammonia, it is possible to drastically increase wheat and corn yield. ToAZ has the facilities to produce dry ice and carbonic acid and acts as an ecological ammonia disposal center. Mainly used as an agricultural fertilizer, carbamide is also effective as a protein additive in animal feed and in the production of plastics, resins, adhesives and in oil refinery. TogliattiAzot patented a carbamide-formaldehyde concentrate in 1998. Two grades of the product are currently in production: one used in the production of resins and the other used in the production of granulated nitrogen based fertilizers. Materials, Goods and Consumer Products To supply their buildings with top quality and environmentally friendly insulation material, ToAZ started producing very strong basalt fiber. The product is a vast improvement on the glass wool that was previously used. The company also set up a refractory products production line to produce dry concrete compounds and products that are already shaped. This was done in collaboration with Austrian firm Plibrico. Because of the top quality clay deposit located on the ToAZ site, the company started producing bricks for the building industry. The company also has several consumer production areas that include structural goods, furniture, work uniforms and knitwear. Besides restoration and construction projects, the company also makes financial contributions to children's shelters and schools and sponsors cultural and sport events and is geared towards creating jobs, contributing to the regional budget and boosting the economy with the construction of a shipment terminal.
