Nafham is democratizing access to education in the Arab world, starting with Egypt, by mobilizing talented teachers, parents, and students to assume responsibility for the provision of innovative learning opportunities to Arab children. Nafham is doing this through capitalizing on technology’s popularity and viral nature amongst students, and by utilizing the concept of “crowd-teaching” for the first time. Nafham is complementing this online movement by engaging private and social sectors, on the ground. Through this online educational hub, Nafham – Arabic for “We Understand”, creates, curates, and crowd-sources 5-15 minute-long, free, simple educational videos that can be accessed online and via mobile and smart TV applications. The videos represent the national school curriculum in different Arab countries through audio-visual formats, categorized by grade, subject, and academic schedule. Moreover, the platform includes interactive Q&A forums that allow students to interact with their educators and peers, self-assessment tools that grant students the ability to track their own progress is currently under development, in addition to online private tutoring sessions to connect students who are looking for additional teacher support.
