Imbabazi builds on the legacy of Rosamond “Roz” Carr (1912–2006), who founded Imbabazi Orphanage in 1994 to care for children orphaned during the Rwandan genocide. Since its inception, the organization has served over 400 children regardless of ethnic background and provided them with safe shelter and maternal-level care. Today, Imbabazi functions as a community development organization in northwestern Rwanda (Rubavu District). It shifts away from residential care, focusing instead on family reunification, transitional support programs like Gucutsa for young adults, and ongoing educational assistance throughout secondary and vocational studies.
