Gunawardena tea products have been established in 1991. The company at the beginning had only 15 workers and had face a lot of obstacles and difficulties due to lack of infrastructure facilities such as electricity and water. A small rice milling factory was skillfully converted in to well prospering Tea Factory. At present, the work force of the tea factory which produces low country grown teas consists of 150 permanent workers and volume of monthly production is about 35000kg per month. There factory is well recognized in the tea production field as the stage with high reputation because of the best quality of tea products. All these company efforts to produce tea for consumer are made while keeping friendly environment. Gunawardana Tea Factory situated in Akuressa, in the Matara District, is renowned for manufacturing high-quality, award-winning teas which have been more often successful to achieve a ‘Top Price’ at the weekly tea auction. This tea factory is owned and managed by the Proprietor, J.J. Gunawardana who is reputed in manufacturing high-quality, standard ‘Ceylon Tea’ at all times.
