Funtoo provides a source-based Linux meta-distribution derived from Gentoo and built around ebuilds and Portage. The project organizes software into versioned kits managed by the ego tool, enabling consistent package sets across systems. For AMD EPYC instances, Funtoo supplies CPU-optimized subarchitecture builds for AMD Zen generations (Zen, Zen 2, Zen 3) and toolchain flags aligned to EPYC cores. Kernel configurations and profiles support NUMA, huge pages, IOMMU, and virtualization features suitable for KVM-based clouds. The Metro build system enables creation of stage builds, containers, and images tailored to EPYC server fleets. OpenRC serves as the default init system, and debian-sources kernels offer broad hardware support and reproducible builds. Documentation and community resources cover performance tuning for multi-socket, high core count scenarios.
