In Costa Cruises they promote a business model oriented towards sustainable development and the creation of value. Costa Crociere's commitment in this respect goes beyond mere responsible management of resources; they are determined to make a tangible contribution to the conservation of resources for future generations. The cruise industry is global by nature, meaning that they operate in a business setting that is highly diversified and multicultural; for this reason they are committed to a balanced approach based on cultural inclusion and capitalizing on the diversity offered both by the local communities with which they interact and by their workforce. The pursuit of innovative solutions linked to the development of new services must necessarily be based on the determination to implement actions and projects aimed at mitigating their impacts both on the local communities at their destinations and in the sea, i.e. the natural element in which they move. The conservation of the marine environment and its matchless wonders is their top priority. Costa Crociere's Sustainability Report is a purely voluntary form of reporting designed to provide stakeholders with a complete account of Costa Cruises’ engagement and the results they have obtained in terms of economic, environmental and social performance. The Report has been drawn up in accordance with the (GRI-G3.1) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines for the Global Reporting Initiative with special reference to the principles of materiality, transparency, completeness, stakeholder inclusiveness and sustainability context. As well as dealing with the main sustainable development projects undertaken in 2012/2013, this edition also includes a separate section examining the Concordia incident. The inclusion of this special case study is consistent with their approach based on maximum transparency and sharing of information regarding the actions undertaken following the grounding of the ship.
