Akbank AG is the successor organisation to Akbank TAS Branch Germany, the former German branch of Akbank TAS, one of Turkey's banks, located in Istanbul. The Federal Financial Supervisory Power gave the branch a bank loan. The bank served both private and corporate customers up until and including 2005. Since then, the bank has focused solely on major corporate clients. As part of this realignment, the old branch of Akbank TAS was converted into a German stock corporation as part of which the bank's shares were held by Akbank NV, Amsterdam, which is a subsidiary of Akbank TAS.
