American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is a civil rights organization that promotes the cultural heritage of Arab Americans and defends their civil rights and liberties. The organization serves as a public voice for the Arab American community in the United States on domestic and foreign policy issues. It offers resources and lesson plans on Arab culture, history, and religion. The ADC government affairs department represents the American Arab community before the United States Congress, the White House, and Executive Agencies. The ADC Research Institute (ADCRI) sponsors a wide range of programs and trains Arab Americans in the exercise of their constitutional rights as citizens via research studies and publications, and seminars and conferences, which document and analyze the discrimination faced by Arab Americans in the workplace, schools, media, and government agencies. Its Anthony Shadid Internship Program annually brings undergraduate, graduate, and law students to Washington for hands-on experience in the Nation’s Capital and provides them the opportunity to learn about issues confronting Arab Americans, to develop leadership skills, to gain experience in research and writing, and to develop greater knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the U.S. government and its political process. The ADC Legal Department offers counseling in cases of discrimination and defamation as well as selected impact litigation in the areas of immigration, discrimination, and civil rights. American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee was founded by former U.S. Senator James Abourezk in 1980 and is based in Washington, D.C., United States.
