Pause and resume after out of office replies

Configure out of office reply handling and prevent duplicate follow-ups.

Out of office (OOO) resume pauses a lead after an automatic absence reply and can resume follow-ups around a detected return date. It works only when the campaign and reply automation settings allow it. Review the lead’s reply and date before leaving the decision to automation.

Which settings should I check?

  1. Open the campaign’s Options and find Stop sending emails on auto reply. The OOO resume flow may require this stop option to be off. Read the warning shown in your workspace before changing it.
  2. In Settings → Preferences, review Automatically tag interest status in replies or the equivalent AI automation control. Enable it only if your team has reviewed the resulting status changes.
  3. Save both settings and test with an internal out of office message if possible. Confirm the lead is paused and that the expected return date appears.

How do I review a paused lead?

Open the reply in Unibox and read the actual text. Check the lead’s pause status and the proposed return date in its details. If the reply gives no clear date, names a different person, or includes an objection, do not assume the message is a routine OOO. Correct the date or keep the lead paused using the available controls.

How do I prevent duplicate or unwanted messages?

Review subsequences and other reply rules for the same lead. Do not create a separate OOO follow-up branch that overlaps with automatic resume. Confirm that an unsubscribe, manual stop, or negative reply takes priority over a return date. Before resuming, check the campaign schedule, sender connection, and remaining sequence steps. If a message sends unexpectedly, pause the lead or campaign and inspect its reply classification and event history.
