Using AI to Research Trade Data
AI can help organize trade-data research when the relevant tools are enabled and approved for your workspace. Start with a focused question, inspect the available shipment records, and check the source, date, and company match. Treat the result as a research lead, not a conclusion about a company’s current plans.
Start with a focused question
Define what you need to learn: for example, which companies appear in records for a product category, or whether a named company appears in a particular market and date range. Use a product description, HS code, company name, geography, or date range to narrow the search. Available records depend on the source and query.
Authorized AI or MCP workflows may search, enrich, or analyze supported trade and contact data when the relevant tools are enabled and granted to the workspace. Workspace permissions and required approvals still apply. For the current search steps and fields, see Search trade data and research a company.
Review records before drawing conclusions
Open the underlying results and check the fields they actually contain. Depending on the source, a record may name an importer, exporter, shipper, or consignee and may include a cargo description, date, port, route, weight, or value. Do not assume every record has the same fields or that available records cover every shipment.
A recorded shipment may point to a company worth researching. It does not establish that the company has current demand, that a named trading party is its current supplier, or that a particular person made the purchase decision.
Check the company match
A name in a record may refer to a subsidiary, intermediary, carrier, or a different company with a similar name. Compare the name with the company’s website, location, product context, and other available records. If the details conflict, keep the match unresolved and do not merge records based on name similarity alone.
AI output is candidate information. Check its source references and the underlying records before saving a conclusion or updating a canonical company or CRM record.
Move reviewed information into a workflow
Signals -> Leads -> Enrichment -> Decision -> Outreach -> Pipeline
Use a record as a signal, check the company match, and add separately sourced company or contact context where needed. A person should assess fit, uncertainty, and applicable contact restrictions before outreach. Record the source, owner, decision, and next action in the team’s approved tools.
Eligible API endpoints may connect supported trade and contact data to CRM or internal workflows. Access and scope depend on workspace entitlement and approval; this does not mean every AI result can be exported or written to a CRM. Review Trade Data for product context.
FAQ
What can AI help with when researching trade data?
When the relevant tools are enabled and approved for a workspace, authorized AI or MCP workflows may search, enrich, or analyze supported trade and contact data. Review candidate results before updating authoritative records.
What information may a shipment record contain?
Depending on the source, a record may include named parties, a cargo description, dates, ports or routes, and weight or value fields. Available fields and coverage vary.
Does a shipment record confirm that a company is buying now?
No. It reports activity associated with named parties and a date. It does not by itself establish current demand, a continuing supplier relationship, or a person's purchasing role.
How should I check a company match?
Compare the company name with its website, location, product context, and other available records. Keep the match uncertain when details conflict or multiple companies share a name.
Can AI send trade research directly to my CRM?
Do not assume that it can. Eligible API endpoints may connect supported data to CRM or internal workflows, subject to workspace access and approval. Review AI-generated candidate data before changing authoritative records.
