The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is a technology innovation center helps its clients develop, prove, prototype, and commercialize products and processes. It is a part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. The center provides assets which enable customers to demonstrate the process and prove it is feasible before investing in capital equipment and training. New products and processes can be proven on paper, in the lab, and in the plant before being manufactured at an industrial scale. The CPI’s portfolio of services includes product and process development; prototyping, demonstration, and scale up; pilot production; fuel, feedstock, and materials investigation; manufacturability, process modeling, and simulation; economic evaluation, lifecycle analysis, and process economics; identification and engagement of key collaborators; and commercialization support and incubator space. It focuses on four technologies: industrial biotechnology and biorefining, printable electronics, biologics, and formulation and flexible manufacturing. The center serves various markets, including aerospace, defense, and security; automotive and transport; built environment; retail and consumer goods; energy; food and drink; materials and chemicals; personal care; pharmaceuticals; electronics and IT; specialty chemicals; and environment and water. The Centre for Process Innovation was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Redcar, United Kingdom with presence in Darlington and County Durham.
