International Olympic Committee is a not-for-profit independent international organisation made up of volunteers. The International Olympic Committee is the supreme authority of the Olympic Movement. The IOC President presides over all its activities, while the IOC Session and Executive Board are responsible for taking the main decisions for the organisation. The IOC was created on 23 June 1894; the 1st Olympic Games of the modern era opened in Athens on 6 April 1896; and the Olympic Movement has not stopped growing ever since. The Olympic Movement encompasses organisations, athletes and other persons who agree to be guided by the principles of the Olympic Charter.
