Started in 2016 by Piyush Kumar and Dipesh Agarwal, Rooter sits at the intersection of two of the largest macro-trends in entertainment – gaming and content – and is creating a space to bring together over 450 Mn gaming enthusiasts in the country. With close to 70 Mn downloads and ~18 Mn Monthly Active Users, Rooter is the largest platform in its category. 1.7 million+ DAUs spend over 28 minutes on the app every day watching live streams, videos, and reels. This engagement is driven by 15,000+ professional streamers and 1.0 million+ users creating content on the platform every month. Rooter is the only platform in the game streaming category to monetize, with a current ARR of $7 million (INR 4 crore+/month revenue). In addition, Rooter offers a bouquet of live esports content in India (8,200+ hours per year) through their partnerships with leading esports tournament organizers like Skyesports, Nodwin, Villager eSports, and Upthrust eSports. The company has also partnered with the 12 top esports teams in India, along with 30 upcoming esports teams and popular game streamers like Indian cricketer Yuzi Chahal. The company has a marquee, global investor base which includes March Capital, Lightbox, Duane Park, leAD Sports & Health Tech Partners, PayTM, Anthill Ventures, Founder Bank Capital and Venture Catalysts, in addition to angel investors like Boman Irani and Rana Daggubati. Rooter was initially started by Piyush Kumar and Dipesh Agarwal to build a strong community of sports fans around the world. But soon after the outbreak of COVID-19, they deciphered the changing content consumption needs and pivoted towards game streaming and esports as their target content category.
