Located in the dynamic city of Baltimore, Maryland, Coppin State University is a historically black college (HBCU). Established in 1900, Coppin State University is a long-standing cultural center for the city of Baltimore and provides community outreach services for the surrounding neighborhoods. Students of Coppin State University are able to take advantage of more than 50 bachelor’s degree concentrations, over 10 master’s degrees and several graduate-level certificates. Undergraduate programs are offered in most traditional concentrations, while graduate degrees focus primarily on Education, Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice, Nursing, and a few more. Coppin State University established a unique program called the Coppin Heights Community Development Corporation that encourages improved, affordable housing in the surrounding neighborhoods. Students in relevant majors are encouraged to participate in this organization to gain hands-on, professional, nonprofit experience. Though academic excellence is expected at Coppin State University, faculty and staff understand the importance of student life. Student organizations are prevalent, while services such as a health center and academic workshops offer support.
